Kenney’s killer career qualifies for induction into Kansas Sports Hall of Fame in October

Posted: Wednesday, July 24, 2013 12:00 am

Bob Kenney’s resume certainly fits the bill for being inducted into the Kansas Sports Hall of Fame.

Kenney, 82, was an All-State basketball player at Winfield High School, helped the University of Kansas win the NCAA National Men’s Basketball Championship in 1952 and won gold medals at both the 1952 Olympics and the 1955 Men’s Pan American games, All before the age of 25.

Kenney was nominated to the KSHOF by Winfield resident Bob Bourdette.

“Years ago, I was asked by the Kansas Alumni Association if Bob (Kenney) should be inducted into the hall of fame, so I decided to do it,” said Bourdette. “He is one of the greatest athletes to come out of Winfield.”
